How will you hydrate your child this summer?
It is just the beginning of summer- 1st week of
April and the temperature is already
above 40 degree Celsius! Thankfully most of the
afternoon schools have already re-scheduled their
timings to the morning hours. Soon
the vacations will start…. And if this is what
April is offering us, can you imagine what
will be the temperature in the May? So,
how will you hydrate your child this summer?
First let us understand How will you know if
your child is dehydrated?
- When your child gets easily fatigued means get tired on least exertion.
- When your child is Irritated frequently,
- When your child can’t concentrate even on his favourite activity.
- When there is passage of dark yellow urine
- And when your child complaint of Headache without any obvious cause.
These all are the signs of dehydration and during such phase
What do they demand?
- Cold coffee
- Iced tea
- Soda
- Energy drink
These all are their favourite drinks but
you must know what’s wrong with them?
They all contain caffeine.
If your child takes caffeinated drink,
the caffeine can actually increase the
water loss from their body. So, instead of
getting hydrated, your child gets
dehydrated because of these drinks.
What are better options?
These drinks are made popular by the
Brands that are making them. The companies are
spending crores of rupees for the
marketing each year through film and
cricket celebrities. And your child watches the
advertisements of such drinks frequently on
television, newspaper, hoardings, on
internet platforms etc. However, there are many
healthy drinks which (unfortunately) never get marketed. Like…
- Plain water
- Coconut water
- Lemon juice
- Butter milk
It is not just for your child. But, it is
equally important for you as well to have
healthy drinks. It will not only
hydrate your body but will also provide
you many other nutrients.
This summer stay hydrated… stay healthy…
That’s all for today,
See you next Tuesday,
With another Tuesday tip,
Till then,
Take care.
