Are you suffering from dry eyes?
Dry eye is a common problem that occurs when
your tear production is less & is not providing
adequate lubrication to your eyes. If you
ignore dry eyes, then it may lead to
damage to the tissue of your eye, possibly even
scarring of your cornea and leading to irreversible
loss of vision. So, don’t ignore dry eye. Take
care before complication occurs.
You may be having dry eye if you are experiencing-
- Itching in eyes
- Redness in eyes
- Blurry vision
- Feeling like there is something in your eyes &
- Light sensitivity
Your tears are a complex mixture of
water, fatty oils and mucus. These mixture make
the surface of your eyes smooth and clear, and
it helps protect your eye from infection & other complications.
Common causes of dry eye:
- Aging process- especially menopause
- Side effects of certain drugs
- Diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, collagen diseases, diabetes etc.
Treatment for dry eyes:
1)The first step to treat dry eyes is to use
lubricant drops prescribed by your eye specialist.
2)Nutritional support that can help you reduce
your dry eyes are Vitamin C and Potassium. They help
you to increase your tear production.
Good natural vegetarian source of vitamin C are:
- Amla
- Papaya
- Sprouts
Good natural vegetarian sources of Potassium are:
- Moth beans
- Moong
- Mosambi (sweet lime).
3)Most important- to stay lubricated, your eyes need to
blink about 12 times in a minute. So, even if your
tear production is adequate, if you don’t blink enough,
you may develop dry & burning eyes. It is very
important to blink your eyes if your job profile
includes working on computer screen. It is even
more important when your child uses mobile or
computer screen. You need to take care and
limit the time of uses of gadget by your kids.
