Is your child eating less when ill? What can you do about it?
All mothers are over protective toward their child. And,
you become hyper when your kid doesn’t eat well when ill.
It is very common that child don’t like to eat when they are
not feeling good. Let us understand the reasons.
Reasons: –
- When your child is ill, they feel less hungry as they are
less active & hence less calories are burnt.
- During illness, sense of smell (during cold) & sense of taste (during fever
or due to medicine) may be affected. And, these senses have big
effect on the desire to eat.
What can you do about it?
- First thing is – don’t panic when your kids are ill. You get restless but
remember: if you will stay calm then only you can take care of your child
properly.
- Avoid sugary and flavored food like cake, pastry, biscuits etc. What
you do when your child is ill? You fulfill all their demands. Don’t make this exam.
If ever you want to give any sweets then give homemade sweets like-
shiro, halwa, chikki etc. as they are free of coloring agents and free of
additives.
- Give your child small, frequent, healthy options like- chickoo, banana,
papaya etc. vitamins and minerals present in these fruits fastens the
recovery and builds immunity.
- You can also give easy to digest food like dal rice, khichadi, moong,
soups etc.
Never force your child to eat food in large quantity when
they are ill. Instead, give your child small, frequent meals.
Your child will demand for more food automatically
when they will feel hungry. Control your- ‘Mother emotions’.
