Eye Problems In Summer & Foods That Will Help…..

Eye problems in Summer & Foods that will help…..

As temperature goes high in summer, many of

my patients start complaining of eye problems like-

  • redness of eye
  • itching of eye &
  • dryness of eye

And they think that it is just due to heat of sun.

Yes, it can be due to heat of sun and you

need to take care of your eyes by wearing UV protective

sunglasses (especially when you drive two-wheeler). also,

you need to wash your eyes with cold water frequently and

drink plenty of water.

Along with these precautions, there are

3 Groups of nutrients which will help you to

keep your eyes healthy. And

they are as follows-

1)Lutein:

Lutein is the carotenoid which is found in plants and is not

converted into vitamin A in your body, but

its antioxidative property helps you

to eradicate free radicals that damage your

eyes from UV rays of sunlight.

Lutein is found in

-Mustard green-you can easily grow it in your pot or kitchen garden

And can have it in your salads.

– Garden cress-this also you can grow at home and can use in salads.

– Spinach.

2)Beta Carotene

It is converted into vitamin A in your body which is

the main nutrient for your eyes. Beta carotene is found in

all orange and yellow fruits and vegetables like-

  • Mango
  • Papaya &

Another nutrient which strengthen your eyes is

3)Vitamin E

It is a good antioxidant which helps to

destroy free radicals which damage your eyes.

Vitamin E is present in

Sunflower seed- you can have 1—2 spoon of

raw or roasted sunflower seeds

in between your main meals.

Another good source of vitamin E is almond

To have soaked almond first thing in the

morning is more beneficial.

In this way, your food can also help you to

protect your eyes from the damage of free radicals due to sun heat.

So, don’t ignore your eye problems

thinking that they are just seasonal. If

Redness, itching or dryness remains for more than a few days,

Consult your ophthalmologist.

That’s all for today.

See you next week with another Tuesday Tip…

Till then…. Take care….
