Psoriasis: Food to avoid….
I have seen patient who are suffering from psoriasis;
they are very much irritable and anxious due to uncomfortable
skin lesions. Many a times, even after trying lots of medicines,
your psoriasis does not cure. But if you make slight
changes in your food habits, then that will definitely help you.
Psoriasis is a dry, scaly red patches commonly appearing
on your elbow, knee, shin, fingernail & toe nails.
4 food groups you should avoid in psoriasis:
1)Plant food of nightshade family
These vegetables contain solanine- a chemical
compound that triggers your psoriasis. Every patient with psoriasis
should stay away from these vegetables and they are-
- Egg plant
- Potato
- Capsicum &
- Tomato
Among these, tomato is the worst for psoriasis. So, you
should avoid all tomato-based food items like- ketchup,
tomato soups and curry, tomato juice, etc.
Also, you must avoid smoking and tobacco chewing as
tobacco is nightshades plant.
2)Alcohol
When you take excessive alcohol, it dilates your blood
vessels in your skin. With this, more of T-cells which are
believed to be responsible for psoriasis can enter into
the outer layer of your skin easily.
3)Dairy products
They contain a protein known as casein which
has been linked to inflammation & thus, to your psoriasis.
And now in today’s world, milk is produced commercially.
So, it also contains other chemicals and hormones which
increases inflammation in your body.
4)Junk food
Psoriasis is an inflammatory condition.
Junk foods are high in saturated trans fats, refined
starch & sugar. All of which can promote inflammatory reaction.
You must avoid excess sweets as well.
Psoriasis is a skin disease that is difficult to cure. If
you avoid taking these food groups, it would be great help to your
medicine that you are taking.
That’s all for today.
See you next Tuesday with another Tuesday Tip.
Till then…..
Take care.
