Stroke: Your Food Is Your Medicine

Stroke: Your food is Your medicine

There has been more than 100% increase in incidence

of stroke in low- and middle-income countries including

India from 1970-1979 to 2000-2008.

Like heart attack, stroke is a brain attack.

It occurs when part of your brains doesn’t get

its oxygen and nutrients & stop working.

Stroke happens because of two reasons:

1)Clot in your artery, means your artery supplying blood

to brain is blocked, this is known as ischemic stroke.

2)Rupture of your small blood vessels in your brain, this

is known as haemorrhagic stroke.

Today we will discuss about ischemic stroke:

It is a medical emergency. A clot busting medicine

must be given within 4.5 hours of beginning of stroke.

Moreover, those who survive a stroke have

very bad experience as they may get speech problem,

paralysis and diminished mental capacity.

Let’s see: How your food can help you in stroke?

1)Bromelain:

Bromelain is a digestive enzyme that helps you

to prevent abnormally high level of fibrinogen, which

can cause blood clots which lead to stroke.

Good natural vegetarian of bromelain is:

  • Pine apple.

2)Lysine & methionine:

These are amino acids which helps in synthesis of

Acetyl L Carnitine which enhances your

cerebral blood flow, thus energize your brain cells.

Good natural vegetarian sources of lysine & methionine are:

  • Ragi
  • Sweet potato
  • Bitter guard.

If you are having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood

sugar level or if you are a smoker, you are having

high risk of getting a stroke.

That’s all for today.

See you

Next Tuesday with another Tuesday Tip.

Till than,

Take care.
